The Chalk Garden

There are movies and then there are works of art. "The Chalk Garden" is both. Haley Mills and her father, along with Debra Kerr and other fantastic supporting actors take a relatively innocuous tale and turn it into a mystery within a mystery. Haley Mills plays a confused and rebellious teenager (remember those days to well) that is engaged in living a lie because she can't accept the truth. Debra Kerr plays her governess that sees in Haley herself so long ago. The tale that unravels includes mysterious pasts and murder! But who and how can only be gleaned by taking the movie to it conclusion and even then leaves you wondering. A great movie for all age groups. My kids watched it over and over and would recite lines from the movie verbatim. And the dialog is to die for. Nothing like it today. Witty and sharp, insightful and wise, the dialog will have you rewinding to catch what was said and why. A fine and great movie.
